Osman Thanks The Fans
Midfielder says he was 'humbled' by his testimonial experience.
Leon Osman has thanked all Evertonians for making his testimonial a day he will never forget.
The Blues played out a 1-1 draw with FC Porto on an afternoon dedicated to celebrating the midfielder’s career at Goodison Park.
Osman, wearing the captain’s armband, received a guard of honour by the two teams ahead of kick-off.
He also left to a standing ovation when substituted shortly before the final whistle.
“To walk out on the pitch and receive the ovation I did was great,” Osman told evertontv. “To have my children around me was a really special moment and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
“Throughout the whole game and coming off towards the end, it was really humbling. I can’t show my appreciation to the Everton fans enough.”
Osman could have capped his big day with a goal in the second half – but he placed his diving header wide of the target in front of the Gwladys Street.
“I had a couple of chances but it’s not all about scoring in these games, it’s about entertaining,” he added, with a smile. “The way I threw myself at the ball, I think I entertained more than anything else!
“I got giddy about it. I closed my eyes, jumped at the wrong time and I don’t know what happened.”
Blues supporters got a first sighting of new Muhamed Besic who came off the bench at half-time.
And Osman was impressed with what he saw from his new teammate, who joined the Club from Ferencváros a week ago.
He continued: “It was a really good debut for the lad and if he plays like that every week then he will be a crowd favourite for many years.”
