Garbutt Eyes First-Team Chance
Young left-back wants to impress manager Martinez.
Luke Garbutt is targeting more first-team action with Everton this season – and believes the Europa League could be his platform to shine.
The young left-back made his Premier League debut at Southampton in April and has featured prominently in the Blues’ two pre-season friendlies to date, playing the majority of last week's clash with Tranmere Rovers and 45 minutes against Leicester City on Sunday.
Now he hopes to continue attracting the eye of manager Roberto Martinez and believes the extra games in Europe could present him with a first-team opening.
Garbutt told evertontv: “Obviously I have got to keep working hard and impress the gaffer because you don’t know where that can take you.
“With the European games as well, I feel there will be opportunities. I have got to keep pushing on and working hard.”
Garbutt was withdrawn at the interval of Sunday’s defeat to the Foxes as a precaution after reporting a groin problem.
Still, the England Under-21 international was pleased with how he performed in testing conditions.
“I think I did well,” he continued. “The humidity and the heat sapped the energy out of you but I thought the boys played some good stuff at times.
“Every game is minutes on the board, so we can take positives.”
