Ross Barkley has committed his long-term future to Everton by signing a new contract at Goodison Park.

The 20-year-old midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a new four-year agreement, meaning he will remain with the Club until at least the end of the 2017/18 season.

Barkley thrived under Roberto Martinez last term, scoring seven goals and receiving widespread acclaim for his powerful and skillful performances. Since making his debut against Queens Park Rangers in 2011/12, he has appeared for Everton on 56 occasions.

He is now considered one of English football’s brightest talents and capped last season’s breakthrough campaign with a place in England’s World Cup squad in Brazil, where he made three appearances during the tournament.

In total, the Liverpool-born player has won nine senior caps for his country.

"As soon as I got told about it, I knew I was going to sign," said Barkley. "It means everything, signing the new contract. It is a dream to have been playing for Everton all my life and today is a great thing for me.

"I am settled in at Everton, this is the Club I love. I see it as my home, I never think of anything away from Goodison.

"Putting pen-to-paper is great and now I want to focus on doing everything right on the pitch and that will hopefully lead to bigger and better things here."

Chairman Bill Kenwright commented: “Everton and Ross have always been the perfect fit – Roberto has made it even more special. This was an important agreement and, I have to say, was conducted in a way that showed clearly the devotion to Everton Football Club of everyone involved.”

The contract extension was signed less than a week after the midfielder returned to pre-season training following his exploits in Brazil.

The news follows Everton’s summer signings of Gareth Barry and Muhamed Besic, as well as the contract extension signed by Seamus Coleman last month.
