'Let's Celebrate With Leon'
Roberto Martinez looks ahead to midfielder's testimonial.
Roberto Martinez is looking forward to celebrating Leon Osman’s Everton career when the Blues entertain Porto in the midfielder’s testimonial later this summer.
It was announced on Friday that the Portuguese giants will be travelling to Merseyside on Sunday 3 August for an exciting pre-season friendly.
The game will be dedicated to Osman in acknowledgement of his long-standing service to Everton.
The 33-year-old is currently positioned in joint 16th place in the Club’s all-time appearance list, alongside Colin Harvey on 388 games in all competitions.
Last season Osman was the only Everton player to feature in every Premier League match.
“Leon Osman's testimonial is an important date in the calendar of every Evertonian,” Martinez told evertonfc.com. “It is a day to celebrate, to share with Leon and to look back on big moments of him and the Club together.
“I'm really looking forward to seeing Leon being shown all the affection and feelings we all have towards him and to thank him for what has been an incredible 10-year period, as well as looking to what's ahead.”
Porto’s visit to Goodison is a fortnight before the new Premier League campaign kicks off.
And Martinez says that the friendly is also important preparation at a key stage of pre-season.
The Spaniard added: “To have a really special game at Goodison was always our intention and I'm pleased we managed this with such a powerhouse of European football.”
