Ross Barkley’s display in England’s scoreless stalemate with Costa Rica is applauded in many of Wednesday’s national newspapers.

The Daily Star’s player analysis says there were moments where Barkley ‘showed his class’ and the Daily Express’s review says the Everton man made ‘several excellent runs’.

Despite the disappointment of England’s early exit, Frank Lampard tells the Daily Mirror that the national team has a bright future with the likes of Barkley and other emerging starlets breaking through.

Alan Stubbs’ appointment as the Hibernian head coach is covered in The Times and the Liverpool Echo, while another national paper links Everton with a £2million move for Crystal Palace wideman Yannick Bolasie. Newcastle United are also rumoured to be interested in the 25-year-old DR Congo international.
