Monday’s newspapers predict that Ross Barkley will earn his first England start against Costa Rica on Tuesday.

Roy Hodgson will make several changes to his team for the World Cup dead rubber and the Daily Mirror, the Times and the Daily Telegraph report that the Everton midfielder will be promoted to the starting line-up.

The articles also mention that Leighton Baines will miss the Group D clash in Belo Horizonte with a hamstring injury.

Locally, the Liverpool Echo contains quotes from Alan Irvine on how John Stones can be a future force for England. The Scot, who departed Goodison Park to become the new West Bromwich Albion Head Coach last week, believes the Three Lions can build their defence around the former Barnsley defender.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail’s ‘Screamer’ gossip column claims Everton are set to pip West Ham United to the signing of free agent Gareth Barry.
