Classic Openers: 2002/03
We look back at an entertaining draw with Spurs, 12 years ago.
Following Wednesday's announcement of the 2014/15 Barclays Premier League fixtures, we look back on another classic opening day game.
Today we revisit an entertaining 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur from August 2002.
The stage was set for a memorable day at Goodison Park with Everton kicking off the campaign by celebrating 100 years of top-flight football.
A significant sub-plot was a debut for the precocious 16-year-old Wayne Rooney. David Moyes' decision to start the youngster looked as if it had paid off as he set up Mark Pembridge for the opening goal on 37 minutes.
Tottenham then turned the game on its head after the break as Matt Etherington fired high into the net before Blues debutant Richard Wright failed to keep Les Ferdinand's effort out.
But Tomasz Radzinski came to Everton's rescue with the clock ticking down as he fired in a low drive from inside the area.
