Defeat For Three Lions
Blues trio suffer 2-1 loss against Italy.
Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines and Ross Barkley all played in England's World Cup opener against Italy - but it ended in a frustrating 2-1 defeat.
The defensive duo of Baines and Jagielka managed the full 90-minutes in hot, humid Manaus, while Barkley looked lively after replacing Manchester United's Danny Welbeck on the hour mark.
Looking to beat the Azzurri in a World Cup finals for the first time, England fell behind to a low 35th-minute strike from Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio.
However, Roy Hodgson's side hit back almost immediately when Wayne Rooney teed up Daniel Sturridge, before Jagielka kept the scores level by heading a chipped Mario Balotelli effort off the line on the stroke of half-time.
Balotelli had better luck five minutes into the second half and the former Manchester City man's back-post header would prove the difference despite Barkley's bright cameo.
The 20-year-old forced a low save from goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu with pretty much his first touch, while Baines also tested the PSG stopper with a bending free-kick.
England will now begin preparations for their crunch meeting with Uruguay on Thursday. The South American's started their World Cup finals campaign with a shock 3-1 loss against Costa Rica earlier on Saturday.
