What The Papers Say - 10 June

The views on this page are taken from the local and national media and do not necessarily reflect the views of Everton.

With the World Cup just two days away, there is plenty of international coverage in Tuesday's newspapers.

And with five Blues in Brazil, there's strong Everton presence among the national and local editions.

Ross Barkley was apparently late catching the England bus to training in Rio. The Telegraph note the incident was taken well and in good humour with spirits evidently high in the camp.

The young midfielder is also featured in more serious fashion with quotes urging the Three Lions to be positive in their Group D opener against Italy on Saturday.

Barkley spoke to evertontv shortly before departing with Roy Hodgson's squad and his thoughts appear in today’s Daily Star and Liverpool Echo.

Leighton Baines is also quoted in the Echo, airing his view that Everton's England trio have had the perfect preparation for World Cup action by mastering Roberto Martinez's patient passing style.

Romelu Lukaku credits his loan spell at Goodison Park for helping him become 'a complete striker', while Phil Jagielka's tournament preview appears in a special pull-out of Merseysiders in South America this summer.
