Distin Salutes Seamus
Right-back just like Baines, says Frenchman.
Sylvain Distin reckons Seamus Coleman's progression this season means Everton now have two of the best full-backs around.
Twelve months after left-back Leighton Baines was named the Blues' Player and Players' Player of the Season for the second time in three years, right-back Coleman landed the prestigious double on Wednesday as the Club celebrated its annual End of Season Awards.
Distin felt Coleman was a worthy winner for his contribution in 2013/14 and says the 2009 arrival from Sligo Rovers is now as important to Roberto Martinez's men as his colleague on the opposite flank.
"He reminds me of Bainesy but on the right-hand side and I think between him and Bainesy we've got two of the best full-backs in the country," the Frenchman told evertontv. "This has been the first season he's been able to play on a more consistent basis and he's done great. He's scored goals, he defends amazingly, he's created some massive chances as well - he's doing a bit of everything. I could have named two or three contenders but because of his age, because of his progression, I would [have said] Seamus for Player of the Season."
Everton complete their 2013/14 campaign at Hull City on Sunday looking to add to a their record Premier League points haul of 69.
European football is already assured for the Toffees and Distin added: "It's not about where we're going to finish now, it's about setting records. That's what we've done with the points we've got in the Premier League and we can make that better by getting three more points.
"It's the same as if we were playing at the beginning of the season - it's another game we want to win.
"I can guarantee, if you'd been at the training ground this week, the focus is still there. We're not on holiday yet."
