What The Papers Say - 26 April
A round-up of the day's Everton-related paper talk.
The views on this page are taken from the local and national media and do not necessarily reflect the views of Everton.
Saturday’s papers are largely focussed on Everton’s race for fourth place and the day’s clash with Southampton.
The Daily Mail carries quotes from Roberto Martinez saying that whichever team misses out on the Champions League can count themselves hugely unlucky, based on points tallies compared with previous seasons.
It’s a story also featured in the Daily Mirror, which is one of several papers to publish quotes from Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino suggesting Everton have copied Southampton’s style.
In the Liverpool Echo, Martinez urges his side to learn from previous unsuccessful trips south to Tottenham and Chelsea when they run out at St Mary’s.
The local paper also covers the boss putting his faith in Antolin Alcaraz with Sylvain Distin and Phil Jagielka both out.
And in the Guardian, indued winger Kevin Mirallas says he will be fit for the World Cup but claims it’s too soon for new Belgium convert Adnan Januzaj to gatecrash the squad.
