Coleman: Big Dunc Fired Us Up
Full-back reveals how pep talk inspired Everton to United double.
Seamus Coleman has revealed how a passionate pep talk from Duncan Ferguson got Everton's players fired up to do the double over Manchester United.
The Blues were looking to record two league wins over the Old Trafford outfit in a single season for the first time since 1969/70 - a point not lost on one-time United tormentor Ferguson.
The now first-team coach twice netted memorable winners against Sunday's opponents and asked if he had known about Everton's 44-year wait to take full points against them, Coleman said: "Big Dunc told me that before the game.
"He was well wound up for today's [Sunday's] game and said we had a chance of being the first team since then to do it, so it was very important for us.
"Obviously we had a disappointment midweek against Palace and today was probably a must-win game.
"We knew it was going to be difficult but the manager made us forget about Palace very quickly and move on to this, and thankfully we've got three points.
"We just move on now wanting to finish the season strongly and hopefully we get that fourth spot."
The win moved Everton back to within a point of fourth-placed Arsenal, who had won earlier in the day at Hull City.
And Coleman added: "I still think there will be a slip up along the way and hopefully we can capitalise on that. It's been a funny season and there's still three games to go, so hopefully we can sneak in towards the end."
