Everton Youngsters Visit Alder Hey

Stubbs and Unsworth help players spread some Easter cheer.

Everton’s 1878 Easter campaign continued on Friday afternoon when Under-21s manager Alan Stubbs, assistant manager David Unsworth and a trio of players handed out chocolate eggs at Alder Hey.

Conor Grant, Chris Long and Conor McAleny joined Stubbs and Unsworth on the neuromedical and neurosurgical wards to deliver some Easter cheer to children and their families who are spending time away from home.

After the quintet visited the wards, they were shown around the impressive facilities that care for over 270,000 children and young people every year, finding out more about Alder Hey’s new hospital that will open in 2015.

“I have visited Alder Hey many times throughout my time with Everton and I am always blown away by the incredible work that goes on here,” said Stubbs. “It has been great to come here today with David and some of our younger players and do our bit to hopefully put smiles on the faces of these children and their families.”

Irene Axon from Alder Hey Children’s Charity said: “We are delighted to be part of Everton’s Easter 1878 Giveaway. It was lovely to see young footballers giving their time to visit us. Our patients and families certainly enjoyed it. We thank Everton for their continued support.”

Earlier this month, the Club announced plans to deliver 1,878 chocolate eggs to deserving community groups in the region.

Fans wholeheartedly backed the campaign with their own nominations and also donated eggs in the Fan Zone before last Sunday’s victory over Arsenal, with large donations also being gratefully received from local Sainsbury’s stores.

Blues duo John Stones and Graeme Sharp kicked off the 1878 Easter campaign on Tuesday when they visited Whiston Hospital and next week will see more famous Blues deliver Easter eggs across Merseyside to both worthy community groups and Everton in the Community projects.
