'As Good As It Gets'
Roberto Martinez hails Blues' attitude following Arsenal victory.
Roberto Martinez says Everton's performance in the 3-0 win against Arsenal was as good as he could have asked for.
The Blues were at their commanding best at Goodison Park and came out deserved victors over a Gunners side now clinging on to fourth place by a solitary point.
Steven Naismith and Romelu Lukaku both netted before Mikel Arteta's second-half own goal to produce a scoreline that did not flatter Everton's dominance.
And Martinez said: "In terms of satisfaction that you can get as a manager, that's as good as it gets.
"I thought the performance from the first minute to the last was very strong in every department of the game.
"Today we had to be perfect in the way we wanted to defend, the way we wanted to use the counter-attack, the way we wanted to be a threat in the final third and the way we wanted to keep possession.
"The players were phenomenal - their awareness, work rate and discipline made it as good a performance as you can get from that point of view."
Asked if the display ranked as his best since taking the reins in the summer, Martinez said it was difficult to gauge.
He added: "Playing against a top-four team at this stage of the season, we haven't had that demand.
"It was a different challenge and I think it would be unfair to compare this performance to another because the implications today were unique.
"What was needed today was breaking many barriers. We were able to keep a clean sheet, score three and carry a threat whereby we could have scored more. The total performance had an incredible, arrogant focus about it that was very pleasing."
