Community Secure Huge Grant

Charity given £4.5m to deliver new employment programme.

Community Secure Huge Grant

Everton in the Community is delighted to announce its success in securing £4,492,219 worth of government and business investment to deliver a flagship traineeship programme, which offers young people from across the region access to qualifications and employment.

The Club’s official charity, along with partner Ingeus, is leading a consortium of Merseyside employers who want to recruit unemployed young people into their businesses, and has developed a unique programme to give local young people their first foot on the career ladder.

The programme will also combine money from business and the government to help employers invest in the skills and training needed for growth.

The initiative, predominately designed for 16 to 19-year-olds across Merseyside, will employ 40 people, including six apprentices, and will launch in April 2014.

The programme will support around 2,000 trainees, giving them a tangible chance of gaining sustained employment, with the partnership with Ingeus UK bringing real expertise to the project.

A brand new Work Skills qualification has been designed that will see young people receive vital pre-employment training at Goodison Park from Everton in the Community trainers and ‘role model’ apprentices.

In addition to this, Everton Traineeship Consortium employers will run structured work experience, while each trainee will also undertake a sector-specific qualification, gaining all the tools needed to achieve sustainable employment.

Everton in the Community's Chief Executive Officer, Dr Denise Barrett-Baxendale, explained: “We are delighted to have secured this funding from the UK Commission for Employment and Skills to support thousands of unemployed young people into a career that excites them.”

Dean James, CEO of Ingeus UK, added: “We are thrilled to be announcing this ground-breaking new programme. The project will make such an impact on so many lives, with expert career coaches on hand even after the young people have graduated from their traineeship qualification to give them the best possible chance of gaining meaningful employment."

Open evenings will be hosted at Goodison Park on Tuesday 15 April from 6-8pm and Tuesday 22 April (6-8pm) and welcome any young people interested in finding out more about the programme.

An evening for employers who would like to learn more will take place on Thursday 24 April from 6-8pm.
