Martinez's Finch Farm Vision
Manager wants accommodation for players at training ground.
Roberto Martinez has revealed his desire to have accommodation for his players at Everton’s Finch Farm training ground
Martinez outlined the reasons behind his thinking at his press conference ahead of the Blues’ trip to Fulham.
He explained it would be beneficial in preparing his squad for matches, and could also play a key part in the development of young players.
The boss expects to learn exactly how his vision will progress over the next month or so.
He said at his pre-match press conference: “It is too early to tell the exact details of the plans. In general, I think it is important that we try to get accommodation for the first team and for the young players as well, in terms of trying to get everything you want in one place.
“So there are a few exciting plans ahead of us but at the moment it’s a little bit in the ‘drawing board’ phase. In the next four to five weeks we are going to get the final ’sketch’ of what we want.
“In general it’s trying to increase the possibilities we have at Finch Farm in terms of accommodation and being able to have the players staying overnight if it is needed in preparation for home games and preparation for the shorter distance away games.”
The Spaniard went on to describe how working more extensively with young players could have major benefits.
He explained: “It is important nowadays that you get enough working time with the players. I don’t think it’s for the older players, the 26 or 27-year-olds - I think it is for the younger players. We could get two or three sessions a day at times but it needs to be realistic and to do that you need to have accommodation inside the training ground.
“I think it is important going forward that we have those facilities in hand and make sure we take advantage of being with our players as much as we can in a day.
“It’s not just a physical element, it’s getting youngsters the chance to increase their football knowledge and understanding of the game.”
