Everton’s fixture against Swansea City on Saturday 22 March has been designated as the Blues’ Kick It Out Match Of Action and the Club are hosting a variety of matchday activities in the Fan Zone to showcase the work Everton in the Community does all year round to encourage equality and diversity across Merseyside.

In the build-up to the game evertonfc.com will be taking an in depth look at the work that Everton and the Club’s official charity does to encompass all six areas of diversity and today the focus is on race.

Black History Month

Everton in the Community works throughout the year to support Black History Month and to promote knowledge of the black history, cultural and heritage and well as working to heighten the confidence and awareness of black people to their cultural heritage.

In October 2013, Everton in the Community were well represented at Merseyside’s Black History Month Black Achievers Awards. The annual event celebrates the accomplishments of black culture in partnership with Black History Month and is the most prestigious event of its kind in the North West.

A number of representatives from the charity were in attendance at the event, while Everton’s first black player Cliff Marshall was on-hand to present the Achievement in Sport Award, which was sponsored by Everton in the Community.

Global Diversity Partners

Another organisation that Everton in the Community work closely with is Global Diversity Partners, a UK-based diversity management consulting company that promotes the social and business benefits of global diversity and inclusion.

GDP work to help make organisations more successful by assisting them in developing the best workforce diversity strategies that will allow them to compete successfully in the global marketplace.

Show Racism the Red Card

Everton Football Club and Everton in the Community work tirelessly with Show Racism the Red Card and other leading charities throughout the year to continue their work in encompassing all six areas of diversity and aim to ensure that individuals are not discriminated against on the grounds of Age, Disability, Gender, Race, Religion and Sexual Orientation.

Established in 1996, Show Racism the Red Card is an anti-racism educational charity that utilises the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society as well as delivering education to young people and adults to promote a message of understanding and address a range of issues surrounding issues.

Earlier this week, Republic of Ireland international Seamus Coleman and Everton Ladies star Rachel Brown-Finnis joined children from schools across Liverpool when they attended a Show Racism the Red Card educational session at Goodison Park.

Seamus and Rachel took their seats at a top table where they joined a panel of other recognisable faces, including Premier League referee Chris Foy and Howard Gayle, for a question and answer session with 120 young people.

Organised with the help of Everton in the Community, each school in attendance was given the opportunity to put a question forward to the diverse panel of guests who talked to the children about their own thoughts and opinions on racism in football, what they should do if they experience racial abuse and encouraged them to campaign against racism.
