Zola's Hammers Sunk By Saha
Highlights from the 3-1 win over West Ham in May 2009.
Louis Saha was the toast of Goodison Park when Everton fought back from a goal down to beat West Ham United 3-1 in their final home fixture of the 2008/09 season.
The Frenchman netted twice as the Blues claimed the victory which secured an impressive fifth-placed finish in the Premier League table.
Gianfranco Zola’s Hammers had nudged ahead when Radoslav Kovac scored midway through the first half, but the contest turned on one key incident shortly before the break.
James Tomkins' blatant foul on Tim Cahill not only provided Saha with a chance to equalise from the penalty spot but also saw the West Ham defender dismissed.
A second strike from Saha late in the contest and Joseph Yobo's close-range effort shortly after the interval ensured the Toffees capitalised on their opponents’ numerical disadvantage.
A 2-0 win the following week against Fulham provided the Blues with further encouragement heading into their FA Cup final meeting with Chelsea.
But their return trip to Wembley, having eliminated Manchester United in the semi-finals, was to end in disappointment as the Londoners ran out 2-1 victors.
