Baines Seeks Clinical Edge

Blues' control of big games encourages left-back.

Leighton Baines says Everton must become more clinical to make their dominance count.

The Blues produced another impressive performance on the road at league-leaders Chelsea on Saturday, but were made to pay the price for not scoring when John Terry poked home in injury time.

The 1-0 reverse came just weeks after Roberto Martinez's men left White Hart Lane in similar fashion despite being arguably the better side.

And while Baines was evidently frustrated by Chelsea's late winner, the displays at both capital clubs as well as the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal this term offer the left-back good reason to be positive ahead of a return to the Emirates in the FA Cup.

Baines told evertontv: "We played really well - in the first half in particular, we dominated the game.

"But you've got to score goals when you control games in that manner and that was our downfall in the end.

"To concede at the death from a set-piece is gutting really.

"We didn't give up many chances at all and felt like we were controlling the game. We didn't quite get the same rhythm in the second half but we were still comfortable  enough so it's disappointing to get nothing.

"[The Spurs game was] similar to this in that we pretty much dominated. We've been to all of the big grounds and acquitted ourselves really well - we've been the better side more often than not.

"That's a positive but we've got to get more clinical in the final third.

"We need to add more goals to our game because ultimately that's what it's about if you want to win matches."

Everton welcome West Ham United to Goodison on Saturday. Tickets are available here.

Dave RylettI agree. We have dropped too many points because we are not clinical in front of goal. We have got to learn to finish games off and take the wins. We are in desperate need of a prolific goalscorer.

Iain McCallumWe need a perminant 30 goal a season striker to put away all the chances we create. So unlucky, the boys we better in every department.
