Pennington Extends Tranmere Loan
Defender to spend another month at Prenton Park.
Matthew Pennington says he is enjoying the learning curve of League One football after securing a second month on loan at Tranmere Rovers.
The 19-year-old defender joined the Prenton Park outfit in January and has made six appearances, as well as scoring his first senior goal in a 1-0 win over Crewe Alexandra.
Such has been his impact, Pennington's initial one-month deal has now been extended and the youngster is keen to continue reaping the rewards of plying his trade at a competitive first-team level.
He told evertonfc.com: "I'm really enjoying it. I'm glad to get some league games under my belt, which will hopefully improve my ability.
"I've been grateful for the chance to regularly get 90 minutes on the pitch and I think that's where I'll get better.
"It's always nice to get a goal. I thought I was due one to be fair - I'd not scored for a while."
Everton Under-21s teammate Matthew Kennedy has also been at Rovers for the majority of Pennington's stay.
And with Alan Stubbs and David Unsworth frequently attending games, the defender admits it's been beneficial having familiar faces to call on.
"It's been nice to have a someone I know in Matty around the camp," he said. "It's good that we're both there and we're both enjoying it.
"It's also great to know that Alan Stubbs and David Unsworth come and watch the games. It's close by, so they can see how we're progressing and give us tips on how to improve, and that's a real benefit for us.
"I'm still at home and I'm commuting each day. It's not much of a change or culture shock for me.
"All the lads at Tranmere are really nice and welcoming and in this next month I hope to play more games and continue to improve."
