Monday’s local and national newspapers contain a mixture of reaction to the weekend FA Cup victory over Stevenage and build-up to tomorrow’s Merseyside derby.
The Liverpool Echo’s report of Saturday’s 4-0 win says victory was achieved at a ‘canter’, though the article analyses how the injury problems are now piling up for Roberto Martinez. In the player ratings, Kevin Mirallas was selected as man of the match after polling eight out ten.
Tim Howard had a relatively trouble-free 90 minutes at the Lamex Stadium and he has told the Daily Mirror that the Blues will not ‘shrink’ away from the opportunity to move above Liverpool in the league table at Anfield.
The Echo also contains words from Aiden McGeady about how he can’t wait to sample a Merseyside derby for the first time, while the Independent features an article on how there are currently 15 players combined in the Everton and Liverpool squads unavailable through injury.
The Daily Mail has produced a feature on the 20 Premier League teams and potential signings they could make over the course of the next five days leading up to Friday’s transfer deadline. According to the paper, Celtic’s Emilio Izaguirre, Dundee United’s Andy Robertson and Valencia’s Sergio Canales are all mentioned with possible switches to Everton. John Heitinga is also said to be interesting Galatasaray and Roma.
Elsewhere, another tabloid has linked Feyenoord defender Bruno Martins Indi with an £8million move to Goodison Park.
