Roberto Martinez has told the Liverpool Echo he wants to keep midfielder Gareth Barry for 'as long as he can run'.

The Blues boss also says he believes the 32-year-old should be a rewarded for his fine form this season with a call up to the England squad for the forthcoming World Cup in Brazil.

In an in-depth interview with the paper, Martinez also discusses his policy of signing players on loan, saying the regular introduction of new faces helps keep a squad fresh.

The story points to the possible loan arrival of Lacina Traore, the 6ft 8ins striker who was granted a work permit on Tuesday ahead of a proposed temporary switch to Goodison Park.

The Daily Express, the Times and the Daily Telegraph also mention that the 23-year-old is on the brink of becoming Martinez's second signing of the January window.
