'Aiden Will Excite Evertonians'
Graeme Sharp backs new Blues signing to make a big impact.
Graeme Sharp says Aiden McGeady has the potential to set the Premier League alight with his devastating combination of pace and flair.
McGeady became a Blue on Saturday afternoon and has joined his new teammates on their training excursion to Tenerife.
The 27-year-old hasn’t played since November but Sharp is convinced it won’t be long before the Republic of Ireland man is entertaining Evertonians with the skills that have earned him 63 international caps.
“He’s an interesting player, an exciting player,” Sharp told evertontv. “He’s had a few years in Moscow and everyone here will remember him from his time with Celtic.
“He’s a direct winger who is quick, has good ability on the ball and can score goals as well. He has a little bit of flair as well so he is a good signing for the football club.”
McGeady has spent the last four years playing in the Russian top-flight where seasons run from July to May but take a three-month winter break between December and March due to the sub-zero Eastern European temperatures.
Sharp believes it won’t take long for McGeady to readjust to the demands of British football – a process which he feels will be accelerated by the help of familiar faces Darron Gibson, James McCarthy and Seamus Coleman who are all Republic of Ireland colleagues.
Sharp said: "He went from a massive club like Celtic to Moscow – some people might have looked at it as a surprise that he went over there - but now he has got the opportunity to play in the best league in the world.
“I’m sure his international teammates will help him settle in. The fans will be excited to see him play.”
