Boss Hails Deserving Duo
Martinez pleased to see Barry and Mirallas rewarded.
Roberto Martinez said matchwinners Kevin Mirallas and Gareth Barry deserved every inch of praise that came their way following Saturday's 2-0 win over Norwich City.
Midfielder Barry grabbed his 50th Premier League goal midway through the first half with a thunderous long-range strike, before Mirallas made the game safe on the hour-mark with a stunning free-kick.
And speaking to evertontv, Martinez said he couldn't think of two more deserving scorers.
He said: “I think Kevin’s free-kick had a very similar profile to the one he had at Stoke [on New Year's Day] but unfortunately that one hit the post.
"Today, the technique was exactly the same, and I was pleased for him because he deserved, with his overall performance, to get that ball in the back of the net.
“With Gareth Barry, you will always run out of adjectives you can give him. The way he has been performing with us has been phenomenal.
"For him to get the opening goal, and an important one, of such quality, was very pleasing. It, too, was a reward for his overall performance. He was once more a class act.”
Martinez also attributed a professional home performance to the return from injury of defensive pairing Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines.
Left-back Baines had missed last weekend's FA Cup victory over Queens Park Rangers, while skipper Jagielka was back after a three-game absence.
"It was very important [to have them back] because obviously we had bad news with Ross Barkley having to miss the game and probably Antolin Alcaraz, after playing three games in quick succession, to get Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines back, that gives you an incredible strength."
