Joel Robles hopes he is given the opportunity to impress in this year’s FA Cup – just as he did under Roberto Martinez last season.

The Spanish goalkeeper was part of the Wigan Athletic side that won the competition for the first time in the club’s history last May.

He featured in four of the Latics’ ties during their crusade to Wembley, including the surprise quarter-final victory over Everton at Goodison Park and the 1-0 final win against Manchester City.

Martinez brought the stopper to Goodison in the summer and again put faith in the 23-year-old by selecting him in the Toffees’ Capital One Cup matches against Stevenage and Fulham earlier this season.

And Robles is hopeful of getting the nod from the Everton boss when the side is named for the clash with Queens Park Rangers this weekend.

“That's the decision for the manager – it's up to him to make that decision,” Robles told evertontv. “I'm working hard to make myself available for both cup and league games.

“If he wants to put me in, that would be great.”

Joel RoblesRobles celebrates last season's FA Cup success at Wembley with Roberto Martinez.

Robles made his first Premier League appearances for Everton in the recent home meetings with Sunderland and Southampton.

He dropped back down to the bench for the 1-1 New Year’s Day draw with Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium, where Tim Howard resumed duties between the posts after completing his one-game suspension.

Howard has been the Blues’ first choice keeper since 2006 and Robles credits the American with improving his own game since he joined from Atletico Madrid in July.

Robles said: “Tim is in a great moment of form and although I'm competing against him, the great thing is that because I'm training alongside him he is giving me a lot of tips. I'm learning from him on a day-to-day basis.

“Goalkeeping is a position where you have to have the total confidence of the guys around you. I need to gain confidence from them and they have been great and really supportive throughout this week and in the games.”
