Bet On The Blues
Best bets ahead of the trip to Stoke.
Everton fans have reason for optimism as 2014 begins.
Roberto Martinez’s men are fourth in the league, just five points off the top spot and one point clear of their Merseyside rivals, Liverpool.
On New Year’s Day the Toffees head to the Britannia Stadium to face Stoke and the away side are the even money favourites with Paddy Power to take all three points.
No team has lost fewer games on the road than Everton this season and the Toffees have the best defensive record in the league away from home as well.
Stoke were thrashed 5-1 by Newcastle and 3-0 by Tottenham over Christmas but at home they are on a six game unbeaten run in the league and a side to be feared. Three of Everton’s last four trips to Stoke have finished all square.
At home Mark Hughes’ team have drawn 44 per cent of their league games – the same amount Everton have drawn on the road, meaning the draw might be the best bet at 23/10. Of those eight games that Stoke have drawn at home and Everton have drawn away, five of them have finished 0-0 and that is a tempting 8/1 with Paddy Power.
If you do fancy someone to break the deadlock however, it is hard to look past Seamus Coleman. The flying full-back has scored three goals in his last four games for the Toffees and he is 20/1 to open the scoring on Wednesday. The Irishman is 15/2 to find the net at any time against Stoke.
Coleman has 12 goals in his Everton career and the Toffees have never lost when he has been on target – winning eight and drawing four. It is 10/1 for Everton to beat Stoke and Coleman to find the net at any time with Paddy Power.
The defender was on the scoresheet when Everton beat Stoke 4-0 at Goodison Park at the end of November and it is 40/1 that the game ends 4-0 again to the Toffees on New Year’s Day. It’s a massive 375/1 that Coleman opens the scoring in a 4-0 win for Everton , although Stoke have only been beaten 4-0 at home once in the last 14 years.
