'We'll End January Stronger'
Martinez looking to add to squad in transfer window.
Roberto Martinez insists Everton will emerge from the January transfer window with a stronger squad.
Clubs are able to do business again from Wednesday and newspaper speculation has linked players with both moves to and from Goodison Park in recent weeks.
Martinez reiterated at his pre-Stoke City press conference that he is looking to add to his group over the course of the next month and that the Club’s strong financial position means they are under no pressure to sell players.
Asked if Everton can resist offers for any of their star performers in January, Martinez said: "Yes. Absolutely. There is not even a doubt.
“The finances and football link but the football decisions come from myself. The big help that I have is that I work extremely closely with the chairman, the chief executive and the recruitment department. There are a lot of people involved and we are in a very good position.
“Whatever happens in January, I can guarantee we will strengthen the squad, strengthen the football club and make sure that we are all stronger going into the second half of the season.
“I’ve said before that in football you cannot fight the trend of the game but as a football club you can dictate timing and everything you do should be for the good of the football club.
“Everything that happens needs to be to improve the squad, to give long-term to the strategy of the blend of youth and experience in the squad, and that’s based on football decisions.
“I can guarantee that’s going to be the case in January, 100 per cent.”
Since the last window, Everton have lost Darron Gibson and Arouna Kone to long-term knee injuries.
Recruiting cover for sidelined duo is an area which Martinez has identified as a priority in January.
He continued: “We are very clear in the areas that we can help the players who are already at Club. As I have mentioned, maybe a little bit of extra cover in the positions that we lost through injury.
“That’s something that we need to focus on.”
