Boss: Sky's The Limit For Seamus
"Coleman can become one of Blues' best ever full-backs."
Roberto Martinez says Seamus Coleman has the potential to become one of the Club’s best-ever full-backs.
The Republic of Ireland international has excelled at both ends of the pitch for Everton this season.
Coleman has been an integral part of a Blues defence that has conceded just 18 goals in the Premier League this term – the joint fewest, along with table-topping Arsenal, in the competition.
But more impressively, the 25-year-old has weighed in with five goals, the latest being another net-busting strike in Sunday’s victory over Southampton.
And asked whether Coleman is currently in the form of his career, Martinez told evertontv: “He is. In the modern game full-back is probably the most demanding position because you need to be able to defend and give a good balance to the side. You also need to affect the attacking play of your team.
“Seamus is enjoying his football more than ever. He’s grown and taken a very important role in the side. To see him scoring the goals is a sign of his work.
“I still think he will get better and become one of the best full-backs that we have ever had in this league."
Martinez was also full of praise for another defender, Antolin Alcaraz, who made his long overdue debut alongside Coleman, Leighton Baines and Sylvain Distin in the Blues’ back four in Sunday’s victory.
“It was great for everyone to see what Antolin is – a great defender who reads the game really well,” added the Spaniard.
“After being out for five months through injury, it was an incredible performance.”
