Oviedo's Greatest Week
Man of the moment delighted to play his part.
Bryan Oviedo says he has just enjoyed the ‘best week’ of his Everton career to date.
A little over a fortnight ago, the Costa Rican found himself watching the Merseyside derby from the Goodison Park stands as he patiently waited for a first-team opportunity.
But fortunes in football can change very quickly and since then Oviedo’s Blues career has taken a meteoric rise.
Within the space of eight days, the left-back scored his first Premier League goal in the 4-0 win over Stoke City, netted the historic winner against Manchester United to end 21 years of Old Trafford agony and delivered another fine performance in the 1-1 draw at Arsenal.
During that time, the Blues recouped seven precious points and kept two clean sheets as they climbed to fifth place in the table – just a couple of points adrift of second place.
Oviedo told evertontv: “I think it has been my best week in England and I am so happy for this. But I am very happy for the team because we are playing very well.
“The fans have been very important for me because they have given me more motivation. I am so happy with the support because they are important for us in every match.”
Everton’s attacking intent at the Emirates on Sunday earned plenty of plaudits, with former Toffees midfielder Mikel Arteta even claiming that Everton were the best side Arsenal have faced this season.
Oviedo also felt Everton were good value for the point.
He added: “We planned for the last three days for this game because we knew it was very important and we are happy with the draw because it was a hard game.
“To win every game will be difficult for us but we played very well and that is the most important thing.
“It was difficult after they scored a goal but it gave us more motivation to come back and score a goal. It was a very good goal by Gerard and it was deserved because we kept hold of the ball and played very well.
“1-1 was a good result.”
