McCarthy To Miss Fulham
One-game suspension for midfielder after collecting five bookings.
James McCarthy will be suspended for next week's home Premier League game with Fulham after collecting his fifth booking of the season at the Emirates Stadium.
The midfielder was brandished with a yellow card by Howard Webb for a foul on Aaron Ramsey in the 60th minute of Sunday's 1-1 draw with league leaders Arsenal.
McCarthy was booked on the opening day of the campaign when playing for Wigan Athletic at Barnsley, and has since collected further yellow cards in Everton's matches against Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.
Roberto Martinez admits it will be a blow to not have the 23-year-old available for selection next Saturday but accepts suspensions are part and parcel of football.
"It’s one of those situations you have to cope with," Martinez told evertontv. "It’s the month of coping with the five bookings.
"We’ll have to make sure we use that time for him to recover. We’ve had a really intense week but I thought James was superb once more."
Tim Howard and Gareth Barry were also booked against Arsenal, meaning they now join Ross Barkley on accumulating four yellow cards.
One more caution for either of the trio before 31 December and they will incur a one-match ban, similarly to McCarthy.
