Jones: We're Up For Cup
Everton Under-18s in knockout action at Goodison on Monday.
Midfielder Gethin Jones says Everton Under-18s can erase memories of last year's FA Youth Cup exit with a win at Goodison Park on Monday.
Kevin Sheedy's young side host Brighton and Hove Albion in the third round of the competition (7pm kick-off) with a rare opportunity at the first-team stadium.
That chance also presented itself in the last campaign after the Toffees went on a fine Youth Cup run with wins at Southampton, Port Vale and Arsenal, only to come unstuck at home to eventual winners Norwich City in the quarter-finals.
"We're buzzing and can't wait for the game," Jones told evertonfc.com. "Knowing that it's going to be at Goodison as well, there's going to be a good atmosphere. Brighton are a good side, so we're preparing well and looking forward to Monday.
"We were disappointed to get knocked out in the quarter-finals last time, but the Youth Cup is a big thing at this age. Everyone looks to impress and it's probably the biggest thing to play in at this level. It's a great cup."
For the younger members of the squad, a debut outing at the chosen venue for the tie could appear daunting, but having played at the home of the Blues for the Under-21s as well, Jones can speak from experience.
"It's mostly excitement rather than nerves the first time around," he explained.
"We're expecting a few fans there and we're playing really well in the league, so it should be a good evening and hopefully we can go through."
Admission to Monday's game is priced at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
