Boss: The Best So Far

Martinez delighted with Everton's performance at the Emirates.

Roberto Martinez said Everton's performance against Arsenal was on a par with any of their away displays this season.

The Blues left the Emirates with a point - but Martinez felt the standard of his team's showing was on the same level as those that had recouped wins away at West Ham United, Aston Villa and Manchester United.

Gerard Deulofeu's third goal in English football helped Everton record a share of the spoils late on after Mesut Ozil had broken the deadlock for Arsene Wenger's side.

"I thought today was as good as we have been away from home," Martinez told evertontv. "The first-half performance was exactly what we want to do.

"You always want to improve and the challenge is to reflect that superiority in the scoreline. But I've not seen a team come to the Emirates this season and do what we have done today.

"The way we kept the ball and took it away from Arsenal and imposed ourselves, that meant the game was there for us.

"You cannot underestimate the quality of this Arsenal side - they have been the outstanding team so far this season - but from our point of view today I couldn't be more proud."

Ozil's opener came about after a percentage ball was pumped into the Everton box by Tomas Rosicky.

Martinez said the standard of Everton's performance can be measured by the fact Arsenal had to move away from their customary passing principles in an attempt to find a breakthrough.

"Once we went 1-0 down, we showed character," he added. "It [Arsenal's goal] was from a really unlikely source because we forced them to go direct."
