Sheedy Sets Youth Cup Target
Under-18s face Brighton at Goodison on Monday.
Kevin Sheedy has challenged his Everton Under-18 side to prove themselves by reaching at least the latter stages of this year's FA Youth Cup.
The young Blues take on Brighton and Hove Albion at Goodison Park in the third round of the competition on Monday evening (7pm kick-off).
And after an impressive run to the quarter-finals in 2012/13 that featured away wins at Southampton, Port Vale and Arsenal, Sheedy wants his players to replicate that tournament form this time around.
"We always look forward to the Youth Cup when it comes around," he told evertontv.
"We had a decent run last year in getting to the quarter-finals, so we'll be looking to better that this time.
"It's a tricky tie for us. We watched three of Brighton's games and they're a good passing side with some good players with ability, so it'll be a test.
"But if our lads can perform like we know they can and pass the ball around like we have been doing, then I'm sure we'll give a good account of ourselves.
"And being at Goodison will be a terrific experience for the players too."
Several of last year's Youth Cup squad remain eligible for the competition this term and a fresh batch of first-year scholars are also eager to take part.
With options available, Sheedy admits he and assistant coach Duncan Ferguson will have a tough decision to make it when it comes to the matchday squad.
The Blues legend added: "The team hasn't been selected yet. We'll be training hard in the lead-up to the game and then Duncan and I will have a chat to finalise the side.
"Everyone's in the frame at the moment so it's good healthy competition. We've got everybody fit again now so you'd rather have it that way than the team picking itself."
Admission to the game is priced at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
