What The Papers Say - 4 December

Martinez and Moyes dominate Wednesday's round-up.

What The Papers Say - 4 December

Unsurprisingly, Wednesday’s newspapers focus on Everton’s Premier League showdown with Manchester United this evening.

‘Bold Trafford’ is the headline in the Liverpool Echo as Roberto Martinez encourages his team to be brave against the Premier League champions.

The same paper also features quotes from former Blues manager David Moyes who explains that he won’t let his past Everton loyalties get in the way this evening. The Scot says he will just ‘get on with the game’ and that he has had to ‘divorce’ himself away from his memories of managing Everton for 11 years now that he is in charge at Old Trafford.

Moyes has also been speaking in the Daily Star, revealing that he had warned Everton chairman Bill Kenwright that he would attempt to sign some of the players he previously worked with at Goodison Park. Manchester United recruited Marouane Fellaini in the summer transfer window and also had interest in Leighton Baines rebuffed.

Elsewhere, in the Daily Mirror and Daily Express, Toffees boss Martinez says that Everton will need 71 points to get into the Champions League places. The Blues currently have 24 points from 13 games.

The Guardian contains a feature interview with former Everton skipper Phil Neville who has been recalling his early years as an Everton player after moving from Manchester United in 2005.

Finally, another tabloid newspaper has linked John Heitinga with a move to West Ham United.
