Seamus Coleman believes Everton’s settled back-five is a key reason behind their disciplined defensive displays this season.

Everton have gone 330 minutes without conceding a goal since Yannick Sagbo struck for Hull City in the 2-1 victory over the Tigers at Goodison Park last month.

Altogether, the Blues have enjoyed six shut-outs so far this term.

Playing in front of the ever-present Tim Howard, Martinez has also been able to call upon the same four defenders in each of the 11 Premier League matches to date.

And asked whether stability at the back is a contributing factor, Coleman told evertontv: “It is. The lads are great and are very loud with their communication.

“It’s important to keep a clean sheet and we did that. It’s also important to create chances and score goals and we didn’t do that, unfortunately, but it is a positive to keep a clean sheet.

“Maybe we have to had to rely on Tim a little bit in the last two games. He has been brilliant.”

Saturday also saw Everton draw a blank in front of goal for the second successive weekend, which Coleman says is something that needs to be addressed.

He continued: “You’ve got to keep the ball of course, and that’s something we do under the new manager, but you’ve got to keep it for a reason and that’s to create chances.

“We didn’t create enough for the amount of possession we had, it’s as simple as that. We went to Palace playing well and with confidence so with no disrespect to them, the way we’re playing we should be coming to these places and getting three points.

“It wasn’t to be though because we just couldn’t break them down.”

All seats may have been snapped-up for the upcoming Merseyside derby – but tickets are still available for the home meeting with Stoke City on Saturday 30th November.
