Everton will assess Romelu Lukaku's leg injury after he was forced off late on against Spurs on Sunday.

The powerful striker was injured in the incident which saw Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris temporarily knocked out.

But manager Roberto Martinez is hopeful the in-form Belgian will be fit to play at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

He said: "We will have to assess it, it seems like a dead leg and nothing serious. Unfortunately, he had to come off at that time."

Lukaku was cautioned by referee Kevin Friend for his coming together with Lloris, who appeared to be seriously injured before ultimately resuming his duties after a lengthy delay.

"I saw it as a complete accident," Martinez added. "Rom is powerful man who tried to get there first. I didn't see the reason for a yellow card - I did see it as a little bit harsh."

Sunday's stalemate means Everton are just one point off second-placed Chelsea after a positive start to the campaign.

And Martinez added: "What is very good is that we are in close distance of the five or six teams chasing [leaders] Arsenal. That is a great position to be in and we know we are not the finished article."
