Romelu Lukaku was at Liverpool's Hilton Hotel on Thursday to collect his Player of the Month award for September.

The on-loan Belgian was handed the prize, sponsored by Russell and Case, after notching three goals in his first three appearances for the Club.

Lukaku's debut was put on hold for the first game of September as Roberto Martinez's men played host to his parent club, Chelsea.

That 1-0 win over Jose Mourinho's title-chasers was followed by a trip to West Ham United, where the new boy stepped off the bench at half-time to devastating effect.

The 20-year-old's pace and power threw the Hammers from the moment the clash restarted at Upton Park and, after Leighton Baines had twice pulled Everton level with stunning free-kicks, Lukaku met a Kevin Mirallas cross to head a fairytale winner five minutes from time.

The striker made his first Everton start three days later as the Blues exited the Capital One Cup at Fulham, but it was his display at Goodison Park the following Monday against Newcastle that won him the prize, the forward netting two on his home bow and laying on another for Ross Barkley as the hosts produced a 3-2 defeat of Alan Pardew's Magpies.

Speaking at Thursday's lunch, which was also attended by Blues legend Graeme Sharp, Lukaku told evertontv: "We are playing very well and I am just trying to add a little bit to the team. The other players, the staff and everybody at the Club has helped me, so I am happy to be here and very happy with the prize as well.

"I would still say the goal at West Ham was my favourite, even though I don't remember it [Lukaku was knocked out following a collision with Joey O'Brien]. It was a winning goal and I had to be very committed. Since day one I have been committed and given my heart in every game."

The next Player of the Month lunch takes place at the same venue on Tuesday 26 November. Tickets for the event costs just £55 – click here for more information.
