Distin: Rom's A 'Monster'
Defender also says Drogba comparisons are unfair on Belgian.
Sylvain Distin has labelled Romelu Lukaku a 'monster' as the Belgian continues his superb start to life at Everton.
The on-loan forward struck his fifth goal in as many league games to kickstart Saturday's 2-0 win at Villa Park.
And from having to contend with the 20-year-old in training during the week, Distin believes the Blues possess a startling talent in attack come matchday.
He said: “Considering Romelu’s age he has got all the qualities.
"He’s a monster. He’s learning game after game and has the right mentality.
“I was talking about his size and his weight with him a week ago. We’re more or less the same weight and to get there I had to work hard in the gym for four years.
“For him it’s just how he is when he wakes up. I wasn’t like that when I was 20. He’s physically blessed and his positioning on the pitch and finishing are improving all the time.
“His attitude is great and that’s the most important thing for a young player, and all our youngsters have that.”
Lukaku has long been compared to former Chelsea forward Didier Drogba.
With the youngster's power already clear in his early playing career, it is perhaps easy to see why such similarities to the Ivory Coast man are drawn.
For Distin, however, it is not a fully justified appraisal.
The Frenchman added: “He might like Drogba a lot as a player, but I think Rom’s very different. He’s a lot more powerful. Drogba was a mix of strength and, I have to say, 'cheating'.
“He liked to come strong at you and then when you did it to him he was on the floor. Rom is 100 per cent. If you go shoulder to shoulder with him he’s not going to stop. He’ll just carry on.
“Drogba was canny about when to fall but if Rom can be as good as him in other ways then it’ll be great for him.”
