Gibson Operation A Success
Midfielder on the road to recovery after undergoing the knife.
Roberto Martinez says he is "counting down the days" to Darron Gibson's return to action after revealing surgery on the midfielder's knee was a success.
Gibson underwent the knife on Tuesday, a week after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan.
The 25-year-old is expected to miss much of the remainder of the season but Martinez says the latest news is a positive step down the road to recovery.
"Darron Gibson had his surgery on Tuesday and that was a really successful operation," said the Blues boss on Thursday. "We're all starting to count the days down until Darron comes back."
Martinez is expected to have a near fully-fit squad to choose from for Saturday's trip to Aston Villa, though Dutchman John Heitinga is a doubt. For full team news, click here.
