Boss' Joy For Brazil-Bound Blues
Martinez happy for those who could be heading to the World Cup.
Seven Everton stars could be heading to Brazil next summer after qualification for the 2014 World Cup reached its climax on Tuesday evening.
England safely secured their passage through to the finals with a 2-0 win over Poland at Wembley in their final match of Group H.
Defenders Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines started at Wembley and the pair are expected to be part of Roy Hodgson’s 23-man tournament squad when it is announced next May.
Likewise, Ross Barkley – an unused substitute against the Poles - has a chance of making the final cut too following his sparkling start to the season.
Bryan Oviedo, Tim Howard, Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas are also set to board flights for South America in June, with the places of Costa Rica, USA and Belgium confirmed at the 32-nation tournament.
Blues boss Roberto Martinez believes that having so many representatives of the Club at the planet’s biggest sporting spectacle will be a great fillip for Everton.
However, he says the time to enjoy the achievements of the aforementioned players is when the competition kicks off next year.
The Spaniard told evertontv: “Once you have a player involved in the international scene, you want them to be successful. You want them to enjoy their experiences and nothing gets bigger than being able to perform in a World Cup.
“That’s something we are going to follow closely in the summer but now it’s a matter of getting everyone back fully fit and concentrating on working towards our aims which is very important.
“The name of Everton is going to be taken to Brazil and many other countries and that’s very important. But now it’s about thinking day-to-day and making sure the players are enjoying their football, growing and maturing.”
Nikica Jelavic also has a chance of competing in Brazil after Croatia progressed to the play-off stage.
Igor Stimac’s side will battle for a spot at the World Cup in a two-legged tie next month against one of France, Ukraine, Iceland or Romania. The draw for who plays who will be made on Monday 21 October.
