Everton produced a superb late comeback to snatch a 2-2 draw when they faced Hull City for the first time in 44 years at the KC Stadium back in September 2008.

Dean Windass’ Wembley winner had secured promotion via the play-offs the previous May and Phil Brown’s charges had carried that momentum into the start of their first-ever Premier League season.

By the time Everton travelled to Humberside, Hull had already beaten Fulham and Newcastle and were sitting pretty in seventh position in the table after five matches.

The Tigers were on course to continue their promising start to the campaign too when central defender Michael Turner headed in after 18 minutes.

And Hull’s lead was doubled shortly after half-time as Phil Neville put through his own net, again from a corner kick.

It took a two-goal deficit to spark the Toffees into life and Tim Cahill retaliated with a 73rd-minute strike that bounced off the crossbar and over the goalline.

And a valuable draw was salvaged five minutes later when Leon Osman stabbed home from close-range after incisive build-up play from Yakubu and Louis Saha.

It was another point gained on the road for Everton following early season wins at West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City.

The Blues enjoyed a fine year away from Goodison Park, winning nine fixtures – form which eventually resulted in a fifth-placed finish.

On the contrary, Hull struggled and they only secured survival on the last day of the season – an occasion best remembered for manager Brown’s singing antics on the KC Stadium pitch after the full-time whistle of their game against Manchester United.
