What The Papers Say - 9 October

The views on this page are taken from the local and national media and do not necessarily reflect the views of Everton.

Romelu Lukaku wants his goals to fire Everton to a better Premier League finish than parent club Chelsea this season.

That's what the Belgian forward has been telling newspapers including the Daily Express and the Guardian today.

Lukaku, who has hit four goals in three league games since joining the Blues last month, also reiterates that he asked Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to let him leave Stamford Bridge and that his mission is to outscore the likes of Samuel Eto'o and Fernando Torres this term.

Elsewhere, Phil Jagielka has been speaking ahead of England's crunch World Cup qualifier against Montenegro, telling the Daily Mail he is relishing the opportunity to share a spot in the Three Lions' back four with Everton teammate Leighton Baines.

In the Daily Telegraph, however, Jagielka warns Baines that he may have to continue being patient if he is to permanently usurp the injured Ashley Cole as Roy Hodgson's first choice left-back.

Closer to home, in the Liverpool Echo, Everton boss Roberto Martinez talks of his excitement at his side's start to the season - but admits it would be 'foolish' to start getting carried away with thoughts of a top-four finish.

The same paper also carries an interview with Everton's Deputy Chief Executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale, who explains how the Club is striving to make match days more special for fans.

The article also reveals more about the 'retro' theme for the Toffees' next home game against Hull City on Saturday 19 October.
