Allardyce Laments Lukaku Loss
West Ham chief wanted Lukaku at Upton Park.
Sam Allardyce has revealed he missed out on taking Romelu Lukaku to West Ham this summer.
The powerful striker instead moved on a season-long loan to Everton, with West Brom another disappointed suitor.
It means Allardyce is now likely to have to contend with the 20-year-old's fearsome Premier League goalscoring record when the Toffees visit Upton Park on Saturday.
"We chased him all summer to be honest," lamented Allardyce, over a player who is expected to make his Blues debut. "When it came to the final day of the deadline we missed out and Everton managed to secure his position for a loan deal.
"We were more or less told he was going back to West Brom but in the midst that changed for whatever reason, I don't know. We didn't manage to clinch it."
Allardyce also revealed his impressions of how Everton will play under Roberto Martinez, as opposed to previous seasons.
"We'll expect them to play out a little bit more from the back than they did with David [Moyes]," he observed.
"But in general they'll play the same after that. Play out wide, the full backs bomb on and get crosses in for [Nikica] Jelavic and Lukaku."
