Thursday’s papers reflect on Everton’s 2-1 victory over Stevenage in the Capital One Cup.
The debut performance of Gerard Deulofeu is highlighted in the Liverpool Echo’s account of the game, with the on-loan Spaniard’s performance described as a ‘magical cameo’.
Another Blue making his first appearance at Goodison, John Stones, told the Echo that it was a ‘great feeling’ to walk out in front of the Everton fans in attendance at last night’s match.
The national papers lead their match report on Marouane Fellaini’s contribution. The Daily Express, Daily Telegraph and The Guardian state that the Belgian proved his importance to the Blues in light of continued speculation linking the midfielder with a move away from Merseyside.
Fellaini’s name is also mentioned in a story in the Daily Mirror in which it is claimed Manchester United have offered £38million for him and Leighton Baines.
However, manager Roberto Martinez has told the Echo that Baines has not asked to leave Everton, contrary to reports circulating late on Wednesday evening.
Elsewhere, Ross Barkley has been profiled in the Daily Express with Alan Stubbs, Peter Taylor and Chris Kirkland talking about the youngster’s promising future.
