Martinez: I'll Be Patient With Gerard
On-loan star must be given time to learn, says Martinez.
Roberto Martinez says Gerard Deulofeu is "desperate" to make a first-team impact - but has warned fans he will continue to be patient with the highly-regarded Spanish starlet.
The forward could make his first-team debut in tonight's Capital One Cup meeting with League One Stevenage.
But while Martinez has high hopes for a player he described as "a diamond" on his arrival from Barcelona, he stressed the on-loan 19-year-old must be given time to learn his trade.
"We're all very excited about Gerard - he is a special, special talent," Martinez told evertontv.
"But in the same way, he is a young man and we need to give him time and we need to allow him to get to know the British game and the league itself.
"He's been working really hard in pre-season and he's desperate to help the team, so I'm sure that very, very soon we will see him on the pitch.
"He's a player who relies on his raw talent so it will always be easy for him to fit in with any group of players.
"But we need to be patient and we need to be helpful because the talent he has is going to give us a lot of good things over the course of the season."
