Boss On Speculation
Martinez remaining focused on the job at hand.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez remains focused on the job at hand despite the further media reports linking Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines with a Goodison Park exit.
Hours before the Blues’ 2-1 victory over Stevenage in the Capital One Cup, new rumours began circulating and they continued following Fellaini’s extra-time winner against the League One club.
Afterwards the Blues boss told the media: “There is nothing to comment on to our fans.
“As I said before, I’m not going to entertain any speculation. If there is anything to tell our fans, we will tell them.
“At the moment we are looking at it from a different perspective – we want to get one or two more bodies in.
“We are focused on the games and we are going to carry on working internally.”
Everton booked themselves a third-round trip to Fulham after Gerard Deulofeu equalised in stoppage time at the end of the first half.
Fellaini then won the tie deep into extra-time after emerging from substitutes’ bench.
But the post-match media conference was dominated by transfer talk.
Martinez added: “I have said it before, the transfer window being open when the games are going on is not a healthy thing.
“The two players that have been mentioned are true professionals and that’s what I want – players that are dedicated to the club, dedicated to the team and are working hard.
“If there is anything to tell we will tell the fans straight away.
“All we were doing was concentrating on getting through to the next round [of the Capital One Cup] which we achieved. Now we are focusing on Cardiff at the weekend.”
