Boss: We Won't 'Cash In'
Martinez reiterates desire to keep hold of his best players.
Everton boss Roberto Martinez has reiterated his desire to keep hold of his best players.
The Spaniard was responding to a question during his Thursday press conference in which he was asked if there was a temptation to boost his own transfer funds by 'cashing in' on some of his big name stars.
The question came after the Club rejected bids for two players from Premier League champions Manchester United last week and Martinez was unequivocal in his response.
He said: "No. There is no temptation. In football, you want to keep your best performers and that's where we are.
"Obviously you always get into a debate when there is a club that matches the valuation of a player. Then you need to make a decision.
"That has never been the case and where we are at is that we want to keep our most influential players and build from that.
"It has been well reported what the approach was. From that point on, we take it as a football compliment and we move on."
Martinez confirmed no further approach from Old Trafford had been made but stressed fans would be kept updated of any breaking developments.
"Everything has been quiet on that front and everything has been as we informed our fans [on Tuesday].
"We're still in the same position we were a few days ago. The concentration now is on West Brom, the opening game of the campaign at Goodison."
