Under-18s Ready For Saints Opener
Kevin Sheedy outlines challenge to young BLues.
Everton’s Under-18s kick off their campaign with a trip to Southampton on Saturday.
After a promising end to 2012/13 and a successful pre-season, Kevin Sheedy wants his team to carry on that run of form into this new term.
Speaking to evertontv, Sheedy said: “We want to improve on that [doing well last season] - that’s the challenge we set the players.
“We’ve done well against Southampton. When we beat them 3-0, it was one of our best performances of last season. We want to get off to a good start and hopefully we can do that.”
The Under-18s bolstered their side over the summer with a host of first-year scholars earning promotion, meaning competition is as fierce as ever.
“They are all at different stages," Sheedy explained. "Some are more developed than others fitness-wise so we take all that into consideration.
"Obviously they all want to play for the Under-18s but I can only pick 11 and it’s the 11 who have done best in pre-season and can handle the games at the moment.”
