Monday’s local newspapers review the action from yesterday’s final pre-season fixture against Real Betis at Goodison Park.

The back page of the Liverpool Echo leads on Darron Gibson and how a knee injury sustained against the Spanish club could keep him out of the Premier League opening day trip to Carrow Road next weekend.

The match report states that Everton ‘failed to sparkle’ against Real Betis after their exertions in America. Kevin Mirallas is highlighted as the Blues’ star player, with the Belgian described as the man who will be ‘key’ for the Toffees this season.

The Echo also includes an interview with goalkeeper Tim Howard who can’t wait to return to domestic action after the Blues’ recent international pre-season calendar.

Luke Garbutt’s call-up to England Under-21s is mentioned in the Echo and several national newspapers. The Young Lions play Scotland on Tuesday evening.

Elsewhere, the Daily Telegraph claims that West Bromwich Albion are chasing Manchester City man Scott Sinclair. Everton, along with Newcastle United, West Ham United and Southampton, are also said to be interested in the winger.
