Everton captain Phil Jagielka has hailed the progress of Seamus Coleman in today's newspaper coverage.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the Blues skipper picks out Coleman's man of the match performance when England took on the Republic of Ireland at Wembley earlier this summer as the perfect example of the right back's ability to prove a handful for oppenents, and believes that his team mate gets better with every game that he plays.

The Echo also report that Nikica Jelavic has set his sights on regaining his prolific goalscoring streak after an exciting pre-season. The Croatian international has already notched up three goals against Blackburn Rovers and Real Madrid, and claims to be feeling sharp ahead of the 2013/14 campaign.

Also in the local newspaper, Roberto Martinez has praised Tim Howard, insisting he has become one of the best goalkeepers in the world during his time at Everton. The Blues boss believes the experience and professionalism of the USA international makes him one of the best shot-stoppers around.

Meanwhile in the national newspapers, Marouane Fellaini continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United. The Daily Mirror report that David Moyes has launched a bid for the Blues midfielder but Martinez will be determined to keep him at Goodison Park.

The Daily Mail and The Daily Telegraph also claim that United have opened talks with Everton over the Belgian international.

There's a special feature on football scouts in today's Independent, with an interesting insight into the talent-spotting strategies of Premier League clubs, including Everton.

And finally, French midfielder Clement Chantome has been linked to the Blues, amongst other clubs, in The Times, following reports that the 19-year-old wants to play regularly after starting 16 league games for Paris Saint-Germain last season.
